Joburg Ballet does the Eastern classic La Bayadere
Lorna goes behind the scenes to meet some of the dancers performing the ballet masterpiece set in ancient India, La Bayadere.
Although La Bayadere was created by a Frenchman and set in ancient India, this production is a proudly South African creation. The dancers have been practicing up to ten hours a day for three months and are ready to give it their all at the Joburg Theatre. We meet Prima ballerina Burnise Silvius who tests whether Lorna can still remember her ballet moves. Set designer Andrew Botha enlightens us on how he has been able to bring the exotic temples and magnificent palaces of India to life on the South African stage using art and technology. There is a great surprise in store for Lorna as the production's costume designer Nazneen Kagee has made her a special Eastern inspired outfit to wear to the performance she attends.
Catch the amazing team behind the local production of La Bayadere on Top Billing this Thursday at 20:30 on SABC. The La Bayadere will be running at the Joburg Theatre until 28 September 2014.
