Presenter Sechaba G spends a day with Top Billing
As a Matric schoolgirl at The Grahamstown Arts Festival, Sechaba Gqeba accidentally found herself in a radio workshop. The station manager advised her to try a career on air, she did, and a decade on, now married to Sakhi with two children, radio and TV are her second home.
The power couple met in Gauteng and Sechaba followed her then fiancé to Port Elizabeth, When he was offered a job in Cape Town, they made the move and decided it would be their family’s home.
Today the seasoned presenter is looking forward to more potential radio opportunities, as well as season 20 of her talk show Motswako.
Sechaba only got where she did through determination. She admits how many doors closed on her in the early years of radio, so she did graveyard shifts, whichever hours it took to be heard on prime time radio and TV. She’s now celebrating over a decade in the broadcasting industry!
As for Sakhi, he’s successful in his own right as a developer, and the two share two young children. While demanding careers and a young family can take a toll on a couple, these two prioritise one another, and make an effort to still “date” each other.
This was the inspiration for their blog, Date Night blog, which is another way the couple enjoys spending time together. They are the perfect working partners, and Sakhi writes the blog pieces while Sechaba does the social media and pictures.
The chemistry between these two is as real as it looks on their blog!
