5FM’s Roger Goode introduces his gorgeous, artistic girlfriend Kyla Rorke who styled the couple’s classic new home
The jewel in the crown of any radio career is the breakfast show and in the six months since he moved to the 6 a.m. spot on 5FM, Roger has owned it!
In fifteen years on mic, this tech-mad, piano playing, motor-mouthed boy from Fish Hoek has produced and hosted on FM, online and digital. He has broadcast from New York, Ibiza and Miami – but of late, his new home with Kyla is where he’d rather be.
Roger’s lifestyle is best described as fast and furious and Kyla is one of few who can keep up. Ms. Rorke sums up this style as what you might find in an off-beat but classic Wes Anderson film. A Georgian design with pillars, high ceilings and grand mouldings.
The blues and textures of the velvet and Persian carpets of their place reflect Kyla’s years spent growing up around fabric swatches.
This style talent describes her process as falling in love with individual pieces, then building a look from there. The dining room is a wildlife adventure reflecting her love of eastern culture.
Kyla argues that it is her love of cooking which may have won Roger over. He doesn't even like eating out anymore.
Whether it’s her recipes, charisma or feel for colour, texture and design, he’s a lucky man.
Aside from the glint in his eye, the obvious sign that Mr Goode is feeling great about life is his physique. Those guns look fully loaded and for adding this new, physical element to his verbal armoury, he has Michael Dunstan to thank.
The upside is getting to enjoy more of Kyla’s home-cooking, outdoors on Summer evenings. It keeps Roger’s studio time in healthy balance.
