Aidon is a former Junior Springbok who now plays for the Cheetahs in the Pro 14, and his bride Sune is an Actuarial Science graduate working for a research organisation.
The two met through mutual friends in Pretoria in 2014, and sparks flew. While long distance proved to be a challenge, they conquered it and Aidon proposed to Sune at a romantic picnic in France, complete with their Yorkshire Terrier Uzzi.
The couple chose to be married at a beautiful wine estate in Somerset West because of its modern simplicity. A quality which allowed it to effortlessly take on the character of the bride and groom as interpreted by planner Chelsea Warren-Stone.
For their décor the couple chose long feast tables with a green, white, gold and black colour cheme. The stunning three tier cake boasted layers of chocolate, red velvet and carrot, and was topped with beautiful orchids.
Sune’s wedding dress designer is someone she’s known since primary school, who created her matric dance dress and her sister’s wedding gown. Sune knew she didn’t want a traditional wedding dress but rather a structured work of art, as for her second gown, the short party dress was a fun sparkly number with a beautiful ostrich feather skirt.
Members of the rugby community turned for for the big day, including Springbok eighth man - Duane ‘Thor’ Vermeulen, and the couple wanted to celebrate with their closest friends and family.
Aidon was flanked by two fellow rugby pros, his best friend and MC Shane Gates, and his brother and Best Man Dalton Davis.
There for the bride were her two sisters, Vivienne Senekal and Maid of Honour Arlene Fourie.
The couple have been dating for over four years and though rugby life doesn’t allow them to make hard and fast plans, the one certainty is how they feel about each other.
Luckily, Sune works for a company with offices across Europe and the U.K. - so she can continue in the profession she loves while supporting Aidon in chasing his dreams.
For one Saturday, there was no coaching or game-plan. All you had to follow - was the free spirit of the bride and groom.
The guests all embraced the request to contribute to charity instead of buying gifts, and it only confirmed why this couple are so loved.
