The ultimate gift of hearing
Crinkling wrapping paper, singing carols and the crackle of a braai are all sounds that South Africans associate with Christmas time, but these are the same sounds that hearing impaired children can't experience. That's why Woolworths and Pharrell have come together to give the gift of hearing to those children this Christmas.
This week join us as global star Pharrell Williams spends some time on set for a very special photo shoot in London, with three children who've received hearing operations thanks to donations from Woolworths and MySchool.
Ruben, Anouk and Shakur are all the ecstatic recipients of successful cochlear implants done at The Red Cross Children's Hospital in Cape Town, topped off with the chance to hang out with the King of Cool himself.
Every day 17 South African children are born with a loss of hearing, but often a simple operation can restore their hearing in full with life-changing results.
With Woolworths, The Red Cross Children’s Hospital aims to change the lives of 10 children per year with severe hearing problems and hopes to help prevent hundreds more from suffering hearing loss every year.
Thanks to the spotlight created by Pharrell our super stars, and soon other South African children, can experience a Christmas with all their senses.
Tune in to see more of the incredible work these individuals are doing on Top Billing this Thursday at 7:30pm on SABC3.
