If you know SA Haute Couture then you'll know Katherine Montague.

Katherine Montague is a mother of four but when she isn’t baking or tending to her prized vegetable patch you can find her in the studio creating her sought-after haute couture designs for South Africa’s elite.  However, this is something that the designer will never call “work”, for Katherine, it’s one hundred percent her passion.

All Katherine and her family have ever known is the ever-changing world of fashion. Having practically grown up in a factory, Katherine was exposed to this industry from a young age and this is how she got into it.



Some family members were designers, others manufacturers & some retailers. Obtaining her Diploma in Design from the acclaimed Linea Academy was a breeze for the successful couture designer and this took her straight to her first job as the in-house designer for Hot Shot Clothing. 



It was however in the late 90’s that Hot Shot Clothing was forced to shut its doors leaving Katherine unemployed yet hungry to continue pursuing her passion. In the year 2000 on the cusp of the new millennium, Katherine launched her own company - Katherine Montague. 

Visiting her favourite fabric store with Jonathan, Katherine tells him that it is her favourite place to visit for inspiration, drawing on the colours and textures in order to inspire her sketches.

 

Her designs are literally artworks that have come to life thus she has become a staple of the elite in Durban. Katherine organises a poolside photoshoot which could easily be mistaken for a glamorous garden party but it is here that her signature style stands out as her creations are instantly recognisable due to her impeccable attention to detail & fit.




The future is bright for this talented designer who’s also currently working on expanding her ethnic range so our red carpet events in South Africa are about to get a whole lot more exciting!
