Top Billing Features The Dream Home The Fouries
This week our dream home is the bold Kleinbron home of the Fouries.
This weekend’s dream home location is a stunning family home in a peaceful suburban setting. The owner, when decorating this masterpiece, opted for what designers call a “restful revolutionary” colour palette which many consider to be “only for the brave”. Fortunately, this family’s risk-taking paid off in the best ways possible.
Jacques & Corne Fourie were searching for quite some time for their dream home that suited their needs & lifestyle. That was until they spotted a new home being built right on the very estate where they lived. This home encapsulated designs so distinct from the others surrounding it that it ticked all the right boxes for the couple.
They made a note of the architect in charge of the project and paid him a visit and before they knew it, they were building their dream home instead of purchasing it.
It is the restless spirit of the Fourie family that's seen them taking regular overland trips through Africa, and this spirit can be seen in the wallpaper on their stairwell which is fittingly called “globe trotter”. They enlisted the services of designer Gisela Calitz to help bring these influences together.
The TV area sports a gunmetal couch which is ideal for watching movies together as Jacques is often away for work. Heading downstairs, the couple opted for white kitchen table legs to break up the browns of the wooden flooring and the “kiaat” table top. Due to their main dining room being a work in progress this is where the couple entertains.
The couple wanted wooden flooring while also making their home as eco-friendly as possible, thus they opted for bamboo. Their guests love it and when they spend the night it is in a room that takes it designs cues from Corne’s art studies background.
The master bedroom features a world of unperturbed indulgence. From the Egyptian cotton bedding to the bespoke headboard and cushions this is clearly a room that features the couples love for the best of the good life.
Downstairs, the braai area is decorated with various tin signs from family and friends with a mosaic tiled pizza oven as the main colour-laden focal point.
One of the clearest indications of the ‘restful revolutionary’ palette is a poised exterior with a daring rebellious streak that reveals an offbeat individuality. Looking at that their elegant yet quirky, art-filled home, the Fouries definitely met the brief.
