The 2018 Nedbank International Polo was a glamorous day out for the stars
The 2018 Nedbank International Polo event at the Inanda Club in Sandton saw some of the most skilled polo players involved in a highly anticipated match to crown the international season.
Polo is played on a field about the same size as six soccer pitches and there are four players on a team.
Numbers 1 and 2 carry out the attack plays, number 3 is the tactical leader and often the best player, while number 4 is your primary defender.
Our gorgeous host Jade Hubner met up with the South African team as they went up against three-time winners, Australia. The teams have often clashed in the past and any victories or defeats in cricket or rugby always underscore these polo tests.
On the field South Africa put up a good fight but Australia were lead by the charismatic Glen Gilmore to a winning margin of 10 goals to 7 at the final whistle. Glen was awarded Most Valuable Player.
While sportsmanship in the theme of the day, the other essential ingredient in a great day of polo is the style, and both horses and players took a back seat to the stunning fashion that could’ve come straight off the runway.
South Africa’s designer to the stars Gert Johan Coetzee was on-hand to guide us through the styles of the day. Summer was in the air, and definitely served as inspiration for a few of the looks on the day, where everything from classic and relaxed looks to couture could be spotted.
While South Africa may not have taken home the prize this time, the early, warm summer weather and fantastic atmosphere on the day will help soothe wounded pride as they look forward to victory in 2019.
