Top Billing attends the World Rallycross championship
Rallycross is head-to-head, short, sharp motor-racing on a track of mixed surfaces - both dirt and tar. Held in amphitheatre venues, it is a street-fight between rally supercars with unmatched acceleration and is one of the planet’s fastest growing sports!
Adding to the excitement for locals, the incredible international event made its way to Cape Town for FIA World Rallycross Championships!
While many may feel it is a European tradition, the sport is expanding into America and Africa. According to Paul Bellamy, MD of the World Rallycross Championships , they chose to expand the circuit to South Africa after visiting tracks like Killarney and realising there is a tradition of motor sport paired with passionate fans.
While there is a wealth of international talent, locals like fast-rising talent, Ashley Haigh-Smith certainly shon as the only South African in the World Rallycross.
Interest in other motorsports benefitted too. There was a festival atmosphere and for fans nothing beats seeing your heroes live!
One such hero is Defending World Champion, Johan Kristoffersson who once again proved unbeatable.
It was a victory celebration for South Africa as the host country as much as it was for the champions.
