Top Billing attends the L'Oreal Colour Trophy Awards
Good hair was celebrated in tremendous style at The L’Oreal Colour Trophy Awards, and we were lucky enough to attend!
To hair professionals it is a legacy event, first contested in the era of Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. It highlights technical expertise and an on-trend, total look - with hair colour, cut & style, make-up and fashion. It changed the life of Terence Jansen Van Vuuren, who says it is equivalent to winning the Grammys, and has since had the chance to travel the world.
With the theme of “Hair Inspired by Fashion”, there could be few better judges than Gert-Johan Coetzee, who was looking for the “it girl” with an extra factor that makes them stand out from the rest!
Tresor Mpasa-Engwanda, general manager of the L’Oreal Professional Product Division, says the competition is the best proof of their love, dedication and admiration of the industry, and that the colour trophy is about passion hard work and technique among others.
The competition had four categories, Rising Star, Men, Afro trophy, and the Colour Trophy which is a demonstration of excellence when it comes to colour, which Tresor says is at the core DNA of L’Oreal.
The Male Category award was taken by Port Elizabeth stylist Fabio Macchia, and his wife Corinne Macchia, also from Port Elizabeth, won the Afro Category with a vibrant, bouncy blonde afro.
Stacey Fagan of Greenside walked away with the coveted L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy and an all-expenses-paid trip to Paris to represent South Africa at the Grand Finale.
Her win came as a result of her incredible creation of a chunky, layered bob with a heavy fringe and a peach- inspired colour.
As vibrant and relevant as the year it was first contested, the trophy continues to light the way in original, South African hair styling.
