Top Billing attends the 2019 L'Ormarins Queen's Plate Racing Festival
If you’re a fan of fashion, sportsmanship and celebrities, there’s no better way to start the year than the L'Ormarins Queen's Plate Racing Festival.
Taking place in Cape Town, the event is the perfect way to kick off the New Year’s social calendar, and this year the Kenilworth race track hosted 18 races over the two day period.
The event has an incredibly rich history, with the Queen’s Plate dating back 158 years, and L’Omarins has sponsored it for the last 15 years. According to coordinator Katherine Gray, the goal is to bring people back to the incredible sport of horse racing.
The event had its usual chic blue and white theme, partly in tribute to the colours of the Drakenstein stud on L’Omarins estate, and some of the country’s biggest fashion hitters turned out in the beautiful colours.
Liezel van der Westhuizen, Enhle Mbali, Hamilton Ngubo, Sarah Langa Mackay and Lunga Shabalala were just a few of the fashionable guests in attendance, and support for local designers was a common theme among them.
According to designer Craig Jacobs, the event is the perfect way to set a fashionable tone for the year.
When it came time for the prizes Catherine Fivaz took Best Dressed Woman while Elizabeth Charleston won Best Hat.
Our very own Fez Mkhize won Best Dressed Male and proved he’s definitely a sharp dresser.
As for the real stars of the day, the beautiful horses, Do It Again took first prize with Jockey Richard Fourie.
