As we speak, the husband and wife chef team of Arno Janse van Rensburg and Liezl Odendaal are busy prepping for dinner at their hit, new restaurant Janse &Co. Here’s why it’s a good idea to book before you go.
Being able to drop by Arno’s convenient, new address in Kloof Street is music to the ears of his fans. Franschhoek was where he made his name but now he and pastry chef Liezl have brought their adventurous, proudly home-grown and sustainable menu to the city.
Arno’s six, award-winning years of cooking in the Boland have put him in touch with an abundance of progressive farmers and winemakers. So, ask him what he recommends and his answer is ‘as much as possible’. Central to the experience here is the tasting menu which encourages you to go with new choices of dishes and local, boutique wines. It is an education in the variety of produce grown on our doorstep.
The menu has a glossary of terms to decode the names and origins of ingredients. To foodie Benike Palfi, it’s a good start. This fresh take on proud, regional produce is also served on tables and chairs designed and made in SA. Local was never so lekker.
