A year ago there was no such thing as a Shweshwekini. Today, this unique swimwear range from Masters graduate turned designer Mapitso Thaisi is turning heads across the nation.
Taking a cue from traditional Basotho Shweshwe fabric, in its first twelve months, this range has already won an award from one of the world’s largest fashion retailers. It is being sold by another, major, online store and to see it is to understand why. Even better is to try it on!
The force of nature behind this brand, Mapitso Thaisi, is an occupational therapist, the first in her family to have a university qualification and packs a Masters Degree in philosophy and law.
Downtime is rare for this super-achiever. It was during her Human Rights Law studies that she jotted down everything she wanted to do as an entrepreneur and she’s busy doing it.
Her first range is titled ‘Mamello’ after Mapitso’s mother, who she credits with her success. She plans on launching two more collections and then wants to open her own factory and store. The lady means business!
