At this week's location home, Jade finds out that even when little girls grow up, the idea of a farmhouse remains irresistible – especially when you build one as clever and warm as this modern ‘plaashuis’ by Renee and Johann Slee.
This house is Johann's first home that he designed for his family from scratch, and the design consists of four simple ‘corrugated’ shed structures linked with stone ‘kraal’ walls. The living area is expansive, open-planned and informal, and even if it’s June outside, it feels like April inside the house.
The house gives the illusion of floating on the natural fynbos landscape, while being surrounded by mountains on all sides. Built with its back to the Cape winds and heated by solar panels and a fireplace, it’s the perfect place to hibernate through winter.
Filled with vintage décor passed down from their grandmothers, this 'Plaasdorphuis' perfectly unites original farm-style living with modern-day styling and comfort.
