Top Billing features winemaker Nondumiso Pikashe
This week we bring you something that isn’t only for the ladies but by the ladies. In a male dominated industry, Ses'fikile wines is entirely owned by women, and winemaker Nondumiso Pikashe of Gugulethu is the mover and shaker who made it all happen.
This week we take a look at Nondumiso’s journey, which was highlighted by Standard Bank’s ongoing drive to identify business dynamos who see opportunity where others may not. When her first collective winemaking enterprise didn’t make it, she tried again - and Ses’fikile was born.
Once Nondumiso relaunched her business, her determination paid off when she met Dirk Roos. Born in to a family of winemakers, he offered Nondumiso the use of his winery to realize her vision.
Ses'fikile means ‘we have arrived’, which is a fitting label for wines now sold in and actively supported by many town ship businesses, as well as one of Africa’s largest retail chains.
All we can say is 'cheers' to a businesswoman who enters uncharted waters and is breaking social norms.
