Top Billing meets Comrades Marathon winner Edward Mothibi
In only his second attempt at the Comrades Marathon, Edward beat a three-time champion as well as the hundred kilometre World Record holder. His title of marathon winner is a fitting one for a man who began work as an underground miner and has spent years working his way up in life.
Edward started running while he was in school and began competing with marathons in 2012. While he always knew he wanted to be a runner, the Comrades weren’t really a goal until he met coach Dave Matthew, whose incredible support has taken his running to the next level.
Today he’s training with fellow athletes from the mine and runs of up to five hours a day.
The hard work has paid off and Edward is going to represent South Africa in Romania, though for him the real success is his happy family and the Champ considers his six year marriage to Esther as great an achievement as The Comrades.
Here’s to an international career, making Edward’s daughters even prouder than they already are!
