Top Billing enjoys an incredible gin tasting with Tanqueray
If you’re a good bartender, you’ll know how to make a great G&T. But if you’re Travis Kuhn, South Africa’s very best mixologist, you’re not just mixing a drink, you’re creating an experience. That's exactly what our own Harmony got to enjoy in Cape Town.
Travis recently took the national title and made the top five out of ten thousand contenders worldwide, so when we decided gin would be the perfect summer time drink to experience in style, he was first on our list of people to call.
Tanqueray is Travis’s favourite gin, and he has that in common with aficionado Kyle Lesch, marketing manager of gin, Diageo, who joined us for an amzing gin pairing and a disussion about what makes the name Tanqueray so iconic.
According to Kyle, craftmanship makes Tanqueray world class, and Charles Tanqueray tried 300 recipes before creating the definitive London dry gin that has become a must-have for so many gin-lovers.
With a variety of incredible options at the tasting, there was something for everyone, whether you prefer classics or the more exotic tastes.
Pairings are ana amazing wayt to enjoy the different flavours of gin, and sweet and savoury canapes with your gin is a good idea – to best experience it and because it’s always smart to eat when cocktails are served!
Around the time that the distillation of gin was perfected in England, the Americans mastered the art of making cocktails. A place where both histories come together is where Brent Perremore works, the incredible Art of Duplicity.
For a man to surrender his bar to another mixologist is a sign of deep respect in this industry, and Brent allowed Travis to treat Harmony to incredible cocktails using more amazing Tanqueray.
It was the perfect way to end off an incredible day!
