Top Billing tours a stunning home with a golf course on its doorstep
The drive behind many of our outstanding Top Billing locations is a style of architecture or school of design. For Jackie Martingano, it was a far more personal association of what the word ‘home’ means, and you can feel it in every room.
When Jackie was sixteen, her parents relocated to Port Elizabeth while she stayed in Joburg with friends and then her sister. Married to husband Tony Martingano at twenty, she always longed for a home to anchor her own family’s life, and this is it.
Since Jackie’s last home was in a farmhouse style, this was new territory, and the house boasts a cool grey colour palette, warmed by natural materials, stunning art works and a few key features, like the stunning wine cellar found under the staircase.
The inspiration for their lifestyle space was the leathered granite and timber floors in the kitchen, and each of the communal spaces has the same chic edge while perfectly suiting the purpose of each space.
The alongside patio offers beautiful views of the golf course and river, and the black and white drinks cabinet and bar near to the pool area are a favourite for cocktail hour in summer.
As for the more intimate spaces, a major return on Jackie’s investment in this house is achieved on a personal level. The sense of a family home which she lost in her teens has been restored through the joy of giving her daughter Lisa her own dream sanctuary, and giving her son a New-York inspired bachelor pad.
Jackie claims her and Tony’s room is still a work in progress, you can’t help but be blown away by the stunning walk in closet and master bathroom.
While doing the décor by themselves was challenging, the biggest job the owners took on was deciding to turn a tired, old Tuscan design into this modern home. Happily, Architect Bruce Dickson shared their vision.
His major changes included literally pulling the roof off to make the house more modern, adapting the design to enjoy views of golf course, cladding the master bathroom in timber, and making the entire home more energy efficient.
Looking onto a garden laid out by Jackie’s eighty seven year old father, this is a house, by, for and of, the family.
