Top Billing hits the track with Jerry Mofokeng Wa Makhetha and Lerato Makhetha
Film legend Jerry Mofokeng Wa Makhetah gets his first facial at 62 and goes head to head on the racetrack with his son and Isidingo star Lerato Makhetha.
The studios where Isidingo is filmed have become a second home to Lerato Makhetha. Born in Soweto, he was raised in New York where his father Jerry Mofokeng Wa Makhetha was studying his Masters in Theatre and Directing at Columbia University.
Jerry Mofokeng Wa Makhetha, star of Cry The Beloved Country, Lord Of War and the Oscar winning Tsotsi is a true legend in the entertainment industry and so we organised some star treatment for him!
First stop was at Hines & Harley for Jerry’s very first facial and a seriously slick shave. To go with their honed acting craft, father and son were given the smoothest of finishes.
Next up we hit the track for some Gymkhana! This aim of this motorsport is achieving the fastest time possible which is achieved though skill and familiarity with the course.
Anticipation, action and reaction are as key to gymkhana as they have been to Jerry’s acting career which began in community theatre during the unrest of the seventies.
Jerry is aware of the pressure which his much-publicised career puts on his son - to prove himself his own man in the industry – but Lerato is taking it all in his stride. Lerato is set to star in a feature film that is due for international release and he’ll be hoping he gets to use his new driving skills on screen, soon.
At a post-race picnic we met Lerato’s five year old daughter, Lehakoe – his favourite human being who enjoys reading and baking and shares her father’s love for music.
Lerato is busy writing a hip-hop soul album and depending on his daughter’s progress, she might even join the band one day.
